Cecilia Blixt Brings Upcycled Couture to Elle-galan
When journalist and cultural voice Johanna Bladh stepped onto the Elle-galan red carpet this year, it wasn’t just a fashion statement — it was a showcase of independent design at its most thoughtful. Her gown, a sculptural, one-of-a-kind piece, was designed and handmade by Cecilia Blixt, a Stockholm-based artist known for reimagining textile waste into powerful forms.
The dress itself was both restrained and subversive – a swimsuit-like bodice offered subtle coverage with a sweetheart neckline, while a floor-length black lace overlay added texture, shadow, and movement. Long sleeves balanced the transparency of the look, creating a silhouette that was both commanding and fluid. Every piece of material — from lace to lining — was reclaimed.
It all came together in a matter of WEEKS! It was a personal collaboration between Cecilia and Johanna. One of the fitting sessions, which generally doubled as creative exchanges, took place on site at our Re:Crafted pop-up in Liljeholmstorget Galleria. There was no moodboard, no references — just draping, layering, editing.
While the red carpet moment was a standout, the dress reflects something deeper about Blixt’s practice: a belief that fashion should feel personal, made to last, and built from materials that already exist. She works almost exclusively with rescued textiles, often altering and reworking pieces several times until they find their form.
This approach is why slow fashion designer Cecilia Blixt is becoming one of the most quietly influential names in Sweden’s independent fashion scene, creating garments that speak to memory, material, and meaning.
